BOMA Welcomes New Business Energy
Advisor
The Business Energy
Advisor (BEA) service is offered as part of the LiveSmart BC:
Small Business Program, which has been designed to meet the needs of BC
based
small businesses. Daniel Klemky was hired as BOMA’s BEA to assist
small
property managers and owners as well as tenants realize energy savings and
efficiency. Below is a brief overview of what the BEA can offer your
small business:
- Targets small businesses that spend up to
$50,000 per year on electricity.
- BEA can perform energy assessments for small
buildings and tenants and work directly with them to identify potential
energy
and money saving opportunities, including lighting, hot water, heating and
ventilation improvements.
- Advisors can help businesses access other
available incentives and LiveSmart BC: Small Business Program components,
including coordinating the installation of the equipment on behalf of the
owner.
Daniel has a strong belief in the
need to reduce energy
consumption and implement more sustainable business practices. This stems
from the understanding that it not only makes ethical and moral sense to do
so,
but also continually proves to make business sense.
If you have a tenant
interested in energy management or have
a building that would be eligible for this offering please contact Daniel
Klemky.
The New MGS Conservation Rate - BC
Hydro
On April 1, 2012, some Medium General Service
(MGS) accounts will have
moved to a new rate that encourages energy conservation. When you use less
electricity than your historic average (your baseline), you'll receive a
credit
on your bill. Use more electricity and there will be an extra charge.
To learn more, watch a two-minute video
that explains the
rate in detail or visit bchydro.com/mgs
If you have any questions please contact your BC Hydro KAM or Lorina Keery at the BOMA Office.
Energy Efficiency Financing
The Atticus Financial Group are
experts in providing leasing services for small and medium sized
businesses. They have been working with companies for the past few years to
help them finance new technologies that help the environment by reducing
energy usage. By leasing, the cost of installing new equipment is deferred
and the savings pay for the equipment without affecting the cash flow.
Some examples of the types of equipment they can help you finance include
biomass boiler systems, more efficient HVAC systems and retrofit LED
lighting systems.

Success Stories
Earth Hour at AXA Place
Our good friend Keith Messner,
Energy Manager from Polaris Realty, shared a great success story with us
about the energy savings they realized during Earth hour for AXA Place.
They
sent us their energy usage data for Saturday, March 31 (Earth Hour Day),
Saturday March 24 (previous weeks’ Saturday), and their average
Saturday during
the month of March. Turning off their lights for only an hour saved them 1,358 kWh! This is the
equivalent of powering down 5 computer monitors for an entire
year!
Great
job Keith, thanks for
sharing this and showing us how it’s done!
