New BOMA BC Initiative - Online Utility Data Management System

We've all heard the saying before: You can’t manage what you don’t measure. Understanding how much energy and water is used is crtical in understanding how to manage consumption and minimize utility costs. At BOMA we believe we can help our members with their energy management by procuring a utility data management system for their use. This system would allow members to view utility (energy/water) consumption of their buildings and compare with industry benchmarks.

BOMA is currently requesting proposals for this online utility data management system.

We invite qualified vendors which can offer a utility management solution for BOMA BC to submit proposals in accordance with the Request for Proposal document available for download below.

If this is not applicable for your company, please distribute the RFP document to any relevant vendors you may be in contact with that can provide these services.

Industry Updates

LED Incentive Reductions

In order to better align BC Hydro’s incentives with the current marketplace as well as other BC Hydro incentive programs, incentives for LED lighting will be reduced on July 16, 2012. Read more here.

If you want to take advantage of the higher incentive amount, incentive applications must be submitted before July 16, 2012.  You then have a year from the submission date to complete the installation.

Reduction in BC Hydro Rate Increase

The Provincial Government has confirmed the following rate changes in BC Hydro.  These new rate increases are less than the original approved rates:

Rate increases apply to all rate classes:
7.1% as applied on April, 2012
1.44% as to be applied on April 1, 2013

These rate changes are reflected in the LGS Forecaster tools available on the BC Hydro website.

Changes in Electricity Demand Calculation

Measurement Canada, the federal regulatory body that oversees utility metering standards, will be mandating that all utilities in Canada adopt a consistent method for measuring customer’s electricity demand. In some instances, this new method may be slightly different from BC Hydro’s existing methods.

Most customers with a relatively flat load profile will not see any bill impact. For a small portion of customers that have sharp demand peaks, there might be a slight impact on the incremental increase in demand.  Read more.

If you have any questions please contact your BC Hydro Key Account Manager.
