BOMA BC Submission to 2024 Provincial Budget Consultations

On June 1st, 2023, Zach Segal, Director of Government Relations, presented our industry's priorities to BC's Standing Committee on Finance for the 2024 Provincial Budget Consultations.

The discussion focused on improving the vibrancy of our city centres so we can bring businesses, workers, and storefronts back to full capacity across the Province. Revitalizing our downtowns improves safety and well-being, and is good for the local economy.
There are a number of actions the Province can take to kickstart our local economy and incentivize brick and mortar stores and workers to come back to the office including supporting small business, improving public safety, and working in partnership with the commercial real estate industry on the future of office buildings.

The committee also discussed how we can work in partnership to decarbonize existing buildings and improve labour shortage challenges in our industry. Our industry has taken great strides to improve the energy efficiency of existing buildings, and we reiterated to the Province that we are leaders in this space. However, in order to take our decarbonization journey to the next step, we need to continue to partner with the Province.
