2030 Greater Victoria Resilient District
BOMA BC is very pleased to announce the official launch of western Canada’s first "2030 District” in Greater Victoria. With our 10 founding property managers and with the support of the City of Victoria and the District of Saanich we will create a hub of high performing buildings in Greater Victoria. Participating property managers will access:
- Support via a peer network
- Access to specialists and government representatives to expedite improvements to the sustainability and resilience of building portfolios
- Purchasing pools to reduce costs associated with energy and resilience retrofit
- Enhanced brand identity which will help showcase their commitment to achieving high performance buildings
The 2030 Resilient District forms a unique public/private partnership between the two municipalities and owners and managers of commercial buildings within their boundaries, to achieve aggressive energy and emissions reductions targets, while also enhancing their buildings’ resilience. The program is part of the wider, North America-wide, 2030 District network.
Participating buildings voluntarily commit to reduce their buildings’ energy and emissions by 50% by the year 2030 (from 2007 baseline levels). To achieve these reductions, the District will catalyze a critical mass amongst the building owners and managers to investigate best practices and to implement pathways to better financing, design, policy and procurement decisions.
This is an important opportunity for the City to partner with progressive building owners and managers, to help drive efficient, high-performance, and low-carbon improvements in our large building stock. Over 30% of Victoria’s greenhouse gas emissions come from large buildings, so we are very excited to partner with BOMA’s 2030 District program, which will bring local leaders together to collaborate and take action to eliminate building GHG’s and improve sustainability,” Victoria Mayor Lisa Helps.
