About the BOMA Canada Board of Directors

BOMA Canada is a national organization charged with advancing the interests of the eleven BOMA Local Associations in Canada and the underlying ~3,500 members. Its eleven-member volunteer board is strategic/governance-focused and does not engage in operational matters. All Directors owe a legal and moral fiduciary duty to BOMA Canada (rather than being delegates or representatives of a given Local Association.)

The BOMA Canada Board typically meets in person three times per year: a winter meeting, a spring meeting, and a fall meeting at BOMEX. BOMA Canada reimburses reasonable expenses for Directors to attend the winter and spring meetings, but directors are generally expected to attend the fall meeting without organizational support since it typically occurs the day after BOMEX.

In addition to these three in-person meetings, the organization also hosts occasional online meetings on an as-needed basis. Directors also have opportunities to sit on BOMA Canada committees and undertake additional volunteer work should they be interested.

Among other things, current key Board work focuses on improving organizational governance; approving strategic plans, business plans and annual budgets; overseeing plans for advancing BOMA BEST across Canada and, in partnership with BOMA International, around the world; improving relationships with the eleven Local Associations; advancing the BOMA Plus Accredited Vendor Program; etc.

The ideal candidate will have an interest in and passion for the key work of BOMA Canada including, among other things: sustainability; smart buildings; healthy buildings; building certification programs; governance; best practices; industry awards; thought leadership; relationship-building; marketing; diversity, equity and inclusion; emerging leadership; accessibility in the built environment; government relations; community service; and more.

Beyond these substantive areas, our ideal candidate will have:

  • An impressive career of achievement in the commercial real estate industry;
  • A strong record of service to and leadership of BOMA;
  • A solid understanding of the role of a governance/strategic board
  • A clear passion for advancing BOMA’s mission across Canada and beyond
  • A collaborative approach and collegial personal style;
  • A professional network that spans multiple regions across Canada and beyond
  • An ability to draw on leadership and service experiences from outside the commercial real estate and/or BOMA worlds.

BOMA Canada welcomes and encourages a diverse mix of candidates who are representative of the diversity of our underlying membership, and we aspire for our board to reflect that diversity.

Interested in applying? Have further questions? Read on below and send a cover letter, resume and two professional references to info@bomacanada.ca by Thursday, June 30, 2023. Please also confirm the support of your employer prior to applying. BOMA Canada’s Governance and Nominating Committee will review all applications and may choose to conduct interviews with some or all candidates.
