September Luncheon: Making Space for Local Business

September Luncheon: Making Space for Local Business

  • Thursday, September 24, 2026 · 11:30am - 1:30pm
Location

Fairmont Waterfront Hotel
900 Canada Pl, Vancouver BC

Description

Local businesses are essential to vibrant, resilient communities. They create jobs, strengthen neighbourhoods, and contribute significantly to the local economy. Yet across British Columbia, rising commercial rents are making it increasingly difficult for independent businesses to find and remain in affordable spaces.

As communities pursue higher-density, mixed-use development, there is an opportunity to ensure new projects support not only housing goals, but thriving local businesses as well.

Join BOMA BC and LOCO BC for a discussion on the opportunities, challenges, and innovative approaches to improving commercial affordability. Following highlights from LOCO BC's province-wide research, a panel of local property owners and managers will share practical approaches from their own portfolios, from balancing market and non-market tenants and filling retail gaps, to supporting businesses through permitting, building stronger landlord-tenant relationships, and incubating new retail concepts.
