September Luncheon: Making Space for Local Business
-
Thursday, September 24, 2026 · 11:30am - 1:30pm
Location
Fairmont Waterfront Hotel
900 Canada Pl, Vancouver BC
Description
Local businesses are essential to vibrant, resilient communities. They create jobs, strengthen neighbourhoods, and contribute significantly to the local economy. Yet across British Columbia, rising commercial rents are making it increasingly difficult for independent businesses to find and remain in affordable spaces.
As communities pursue higher-density, mixed-use development, there is an opportunity to ensure new projects support not only housing goals, but thriving local businesses as well.
Join BOMA BC and LOCO BC for a discussion on the opportunities, challenges, and innovative approaches to improving commercial affordability. The session will begin with highlights from LOCO BC's province-wide research, followed by a panel featuring organizations showcased in the report's case studies. Panelists will share practical examples, lessons learned, and collaborative strategies that are helping create and preserve affordable commercial space for independent businesses.
